Ecology

Ecology

Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve protects one of the best examples of montane habitat in all of Alberta. Shielded within the front ranges of the Rocky Mountains, this unique grassland and forest mosaic is home to many species of rare plants and provides important habitat for wildlife.

“There is something very magical about this place which begs for further investigation, appreciation, enjoyment, something I cannot currently understand. It is a feeling. A draw. I shall return. When you are in the area, you may feel the same tug and take more time to discover the essence of this special place. It is a 'leave no trace' place. There is a spiritual presence.”
